Ashes Second Test Betting Tips

Conor PhillipsIndian Premier League

Australia vs England, Adelaide Oval – Thursday 5th December 12:00 am

The second Ashes test in Adelaide gets underway tonight and Australia have the momentum going into this one after recording a 381-run victory at the Gabba.

England are sure to be more fired up though after collapsing in the first test. The Australia win gave them the lead in the series for what is the first time in seven years.

Alastair Cook was the only batsman to show any resilience for England, when he knocked 65 in the second innings.

Man of the match, Mitchell Johnson’s bowling proved too good for the tourists though, as he took 4-61 in the first innings, before rattling through a nervy England side in the second, taking 5-42.

The left-arm bowler is now as short as 2/1 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes to be Australia’s top bowler in the second test, with William Hill offering the best price of 5/2, which represents good value.

The injury-prone Ryan Harris is second favourite for the Australians and is also at 5/2 with most leading firms. He took a positive 5-77 in the first test and is hopeful to complete the series without missing any games.

Brad Haddin recorded two half centuries for the home side, with 94 in the first innings, before adding a valuable 53 off only 55 balls in the second.

He is 12/1 to be Australia’s top batsman in the next test, which represents good value. Both David Warner and captain Michael Clarke also performed well with the bat.

The former had 49 in the first innings, before scoring 124 in the second innings. That was the biggest run total of any batsman during the first test and the magnificent display was at a strike rate of above 80. He is 17/4 best price with Paddy Power to be the Aussies’ top run scorer.

Captain Clarke is still favourite though and he proved why in the second innings, when he batted his way to a stylish 113. The best odds on him are 3/1 with Boylesports.

Alastair Cook was the best of a dissapointing bunch of England bastman and he is the 15/8  favourite to end the series as England’s top batsman.

Ian Bell represents decent value for someone who has shown his potential numerous times in recent years. He is 4/1 with Stan James, who also offer 3/1 for Kevin Pietersen.

Stuart Broad is 5/2 to be top England bowler in Adelaide, after he took 8 wickets in the first test. Anderson, who was the best bowler during the last Ashes series, is also 5/2 with William Hill.

Australia are the 7/4 favourites to win the second test with Boylesports, whilst Bet365 offer a tempting price of 3/1 for the tourists. Bet365 are also offering the best odds on the draw, which are currently 11/8.

Following a very strong team performance in the first test, Australia are as short as 8/13 to win the series with William Hill, whilst England have drifted to 7/2.

Tim Bresnan will return to be in contention for a spot in the England team and is likely to face competition from fellow seamers Chris Tremlett and Steven Finn, whilst Clarke will field the same team that won the first test in fine fashion.

BET OF THE DAY:

Mitchell Johnson to be top Australian bowler in second test, at 5/2 with William Hill.

Alastair Cook to be top scoring England batsman in second test, at 7/2 with Stan James.
