This midweek slot sees the conclusion of the Capital One Cup semi-final ties. Barring a miracle Manchester City are already through to Wembley but Manchester United have work to do if they’re going to make it an all-Mancunian final in March.
West Ham v Manchester City (Tuesday)
Today’s serving is from East London where West Ham will be looking to restore some sort of pride to the aggregate score following 6-0 drubbing a fortnight ago.
City ran riot against the relegation scrappers in the first leg at the City of Manchester Stadium with Alvaro Negredo smashing in a hat-trick within 49 minutes, whilst Edin Dzeko nicked a brace.
The Hammers slipped into the bottom three at the weekend following their 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United but they have the weekend off after being knocked out of the FA Cup so Sam Allerdyce will probably field a fairly strong side.
Kevin Nolan and James Tomkins are both likely to feature after returning from suspensions whilst Andy Carroll, Ravel Morrison and Ricardo Vaz Te will be involved following injury lay-offs.
With such an advantageous aggregate lead and an FA Cup Fourth round tie with Watford coming up on Saturday, Manuel Pellegrini is likely to give a number of his fringe players a run out on Tuesday.
Stevan Jovetic and Jack Rodwell will probably feature following injury problems and Sergio Aguero could also feature for part of the match as he looks to return to full fitness following a hamstring injury.
This game is live on Sky Sports 1 from 7:45pm.
Manchester United v Sunderland (Wednesday)
Following their 2-1 first leg defeat at the Stadium of Light two weeks ago, Manchester United need a result to guarantee their spot at Wembley in the League Cup final.
Morale at Old Trafford was not helped on Sunday as they were defeated 3-1 at Chelsea and they key for David Moyes’ side now is the need to bounce back with a good performance on Wednesday.
Their cause is not helped with the continued absences of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, whilst skipped Nemaja Vidic begins his three match ban following a crazy lunge which saw him see red at the weekend.
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will field the strongest side he can with the chance of a first League Cup final since 1985. He will be without defender Carlos Cuellar and goalkeeper Keiren Westwood whilst Steven Fletcher is a doubt due to an Achilles injury.
The Black Cats are unbeaten in four going into the match but are priced at 17/2 with Bet Victor in securing another win at Old Trafford. They are though available at 2/1 with William Hill at making it through to the final.
Javier Hernandez netted the consolation goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and is therefore likely to feature. He’s my BET OF THE DAY as anytime goalscorer with Bet Victor at 13/10.
Catch this match live on Sky Sports 1 from 7:45pm on Wednesday.
