League One Play-Off Betting Tips

Football LeagueMark Rawlinson

With all Premier League action concluding on Sunday afternoon, attention on Saturday focusses on the play-off semi-finals from League One and Two.

Peterborough United v Leyton Orient Betting Tips

The pace set by early League One front-runners Leyton Orient could not be sustained and in the end they had to settle for a play-off place by finishing third where they face Peterborough United.

Darren Ferguson’s side have already scooped the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy earlier this season, and are looking for immediate return to the Championship after dropping out 12 months ago.

Since their 3-1 triumph over Chesterfield at Wembley, United have lost just two of their final eight league games and come into this one high on confidence.

The Os come into this match with just three wins from their last ten League One games but Russell Slade should have a full squad to pick from.

Both fixtures in the regular season were won by the away team and Bet 365 provide the best odds of 5/2 on an Orient win on Saturday. Peterborough are 13/10 favourites with William Hill.

The match is live on Sky Sports 1 from 12:15pm.

Preston North End v Rotherham Betting Tips

Both these teams secured their places in the League One play-offs a while ago, with Preston eventually finishing fifth and Rotherham fourth.

Preston are looking for their return to the second tier of English football after a three year absence but will face a tough task against an over-performing Rotherham side on Saturday evening.

Simon Grayson’s North End have been defeated just twice in their last six games and have made Deepdale a fortress this year, having not been beaten at home in the league since December 21st. They welcome defender Tom Clarke back from a calf problem.

Visitors Rotherham have been nothing short of sublime in 2014, with just two defeats in their 22 matches this year. Steve Evans has a full squad to choose from apart from midfielder Richie Smallwood who serves the final game of his three-match ban.

There has been nothing to pick between the two sides this season, with a 0-0 draw at The New York Stadium in the early stages of the season whilst the return fixture in Lancashire ended in an exciting 3-3 draw in February.

Preston are 13/10 favourites with Paddy Power whilst Rotherham are best priced at 12/5 with Bet 365.

Catch this one live on Sky Sports 1 from 5:15pm.

York City v Fleetwood Town Betting Tips

Then on Saturday evening the League Two play-offs kick off as Fleetwood Town travel to York City.

The play-offs must’ve felt like a distant dream to the Minstermen before Chrismas as they were enveloped in the relegation scrap but after losing just two games in the New Year, they claimed the fourth and final play-off spot.

Nine years ago Fleetwood Town were competing in the North West Counties League but they are bidding for their sixth promotion in that time-span as their assault up the leagues continues.

Micky Mellon’s side have been amongst the front-runners all season in League Two but had to settle for a play-off place after finishing five points behind third placed Rochdale. Defender Conor McLaughlin and striker Jamille Matt face late fitness tests if they’re to be ready for the match.

York are 13/8 favourites with Betfred whilst Bet 365 offer the best odds on a Fleetwood win at 2/1.

Catch this match live from 7:30pm on Sky Sports 1.
