Royal Ascot Day One

Tuesday 20th June 2017 Royal Ascot

2.30 Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1, 1m)

Ribchester‘s to lose. He’s a worthy favourite and will make plenty of multiples as the week kicks off. Proven at Ascot too, his most dangerous opponent, according to the market, is likely to be the Lockinge runner-up LIGHTNING SPEAR. Connections have even lined up pacemaker/spoiler, DUTCH UNCLE, in a bid to knock the odds-on shot out of his rhythm. But the faster the pace, the more it will suit Ribchester

3.05 Coventry Stakes (Group 2, 6f)

15:05 Ascot – paying 4 places

Bet 365 (1/4)
Sky Bet (1/5)
Betfred (1/5)
Totesport (1/5)

3.40 King’s Stand Stakes (Group 1, 5f)

A tremendous renewal of the first Group One 5f sprint of the season was all set to deliver a duel between the brilliant winners of the last two runnings of the Queen Mary Stakes for fillies, Acapulco for Aidan O’Brien and LADY AURELIA for American handler Wesley Ward.Lady Aurelia made a massive splash last year at the Royal Meeting with her Queen Mary win one of the highlights of the entire week. She destroyed a good field that day and American trainer Wesley Ward has been aiming her at a return to Berkshire ever since that devastating performance in 2016.

15:40 Ascot – paying 4 places

Bet 365 (1/4)
Betfred (1/5)
Totesport (1/5)
Sky Bet (1/5 5 places )

4.20 St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1, 1m)

Trainer Richard Hannon has been making bullish noises about BARNEY ROY reversing Qipco 2,000 Guineas form with the winner, CHURCHILL, in this £400,000 highlight of the opening day. And given the fact that the colt is sure to be improving after only three career-starts, and failed to handle the undulations at Newmarket, Hannon might be justified. But Aidan O’Brien’s powerful champion, unbeaten in seven starts since his debut, is also still on the upgrade.

Churchill will be a warm order to stamp his authority on the three-year-old mile division following wins in the English and Irish 2000 Guineas.  He is unbeaten in his last seven races, which started with a win in the Chesham Stakes at this meeting last year and he has not looked back since, landing four Group 1’s in that sequence. I will take a chance however on BARNEY ROY being able to overturn the one length verdict from the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on just his fourth career start

5.00 Ascot Stakes (Class 2 Handicap, 2m4f)

5.35 Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed, 5f)

A big field of sub-top class but nearly all unexposed juveniles over the minimum trip. . Six of the last eight winners also won last time out, including scorers at 14/1 and 20/1 Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan can seal their reacquaintance this season with a Royal winner courtesy of SIMMY’S COPSHOP. His Nottingham debut success could hardly be working out any better and he reportedly lost a shoe during the race when third a listed contest in Ireland subsequently.

17:35 Ascot – paying 4 places

Bet 365 (1/4)
Sky Bet (1/5)
Betfred (1/5)
Totesport (1/5)

Gareth Bale Ruled Out of Champions League Final 2017?

One of the most anticipated annual football events is to take place on Saturday 3rd June in Cardiff and now, it looks like the Welsh-star is to be left on the bench. Juventus take on Real Madrid in Cardiff on Saturday and whilst a bust of Gareth Bale was unveiled outside the stadium yesterday, Isco was gearing up to get off to a flying start on the pitch. Whether Gareth Bale will be made to sit on the bench or not, has been a hot topic for numerous weeks now, but the 27-year old today has taken matters into his own hands and decided that he isn’t fit enough, by releasing the following statement;

“I am not 100%. I haven’t played for six or seven weeks. I obviously had my operation which still hasn’t recovered. If I’m called upon to start, I will obviously, but to last 90minutes – I haven’t played a lot of football this year since my operation, so it would be difficult. Isco has been playing fantastically well for us, at the end of the season, so whatever the manager decides, I will accept it”

So, was this an obvious statement that he will be starting on the bench? It seems so, but either way, Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus manager says his team have nothing to fear against Real Madrid, by claiming there is a lot more positivity around the club than 2014 – when he arrived as manager. Juventus have fallen at the last hurdle more than any other European team, but could 2017 be their year to shine?

Epsom Investec Derby 2017 – 1,000/1 winner?

The Epsom Derby is an annual horse racing event that starts on Friday 2nd June until Saturday 3rd June 2017, which includes 7 races a day – making a total of 14 racing events to be covered. Right at the last minute, two horses were added to this auspicious event at a cost of £85,000 each – Permian, the successor in the Dante Stakes at York and Khalidi, last week’s winner at Goodwood, making the total purse for the classic a staggering £1.625million. To add more excitement to what already is the most anticipated horse racing event of the summer, trainer John Jenkins has thrown in outsider Diore Lia – the 1,000/1 shot, which has drawn criticism far and wide, but he has defended his owner’s decision to enter the outsider who will be ridden by Gina Mangan – the apprentice jockey.

Diore Lia has only ever made 2 competitive appearances, but the owner Richard Aylward is keen for his filly to take to the field to generate publicity and funds for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. John Jenkins stated;

“If I didn’t run her, someone else would. The owner is keen to run her and has set up a charity. He’s there for the big day. I had a runner in the Derby a long time ago. That was an outsider as well and it didn’t finish last. Has there ever been a 1,000/1 winner of the Derby?”

 Where to watch

The Epsom Investec Derby will be taking place on Saturday 3rd June at 16:30, live coverage will be available on the BBC and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Will you be backing the 1,000/1 entry, or will you be sticking your cash on a safer horse? Ladbrokes and Bet365 will be live streaming the horse racing event, so customers can watch it through their sport betting accounts. Not only that, but new players will be entitled to claim a £50 free bet with Ladbrokes and a 100% deposit bonus up to £200 at Bet365 – giving you even more value for money.

Watch the French Open Live with Bet365

French Open Live with Bet365

One of the most anticipated sporting events of the year is taking place from Monday 22nd May to Sunday 11th June – the French Open (also known as Roland Garros) and you can watch it live thanks to Bet365. The second grand slam tennis event of the year will see famous faces take to the courts to prove they have what it takes to be crowned this year’s winner, and with big names such as Serena Williams and Roger Federer both out, it looks to be anybody’s game.

Disgraced tennis star Maria Sharapova was looking to get back into the swing of things with a wild card into the French Open, but her hopes were dashed this week when she was informed she wouldn’t be taking part. Maria Sharapova has won the French Open a total of 4 times but has also been a runner up twice, meaning she stood a good chance of getting to the final again this year. The women tennis players can breathe a sigh of relief at this new information and look to get as far into the competition as they possibly can.

Defending champions

Novak Djokovic proved he wasn’t to be messed with last year, when he beat Andy Murray to win his very first French Open trophy, this also completed his career grand slam, being the first man since Rod Laver (in 1969) to hold all four majors at once – but could Andy Murray overcome his demons and become victorious this year?

The women’s title was won by 22 year old Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, after stunning the crowd and world number 1 Serena Williams in straight sets to win her very first grand slam.

Where to Watch

Bet365 welcome customers to watch the action unfold as its happening through the live streaming facility, just log in and head to the love streaming section of the website to get started. You can also place live bets on the matches as they are taking place, making things even more exciting.
