Tuesday 20th June 2017 Royal Ascot
2.30 Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1, 1m)
Ribchester‘s to lose. He’s a worthy favourite and will make plenty of multiples as the week kicks off. Proven at Ascot too, his most dangerous opponent, according to the market, is likely to be the Lockinge runner-up LIGHTNING SPEAR. Connections have even lined up pacemaker/spoiler, DUTCH UNCLE, in a bid to knock the odds-on shot out of his rhythm. But the faster the pace, the more it will suit Ribchester
3.05 Coventry Stakes (Group 2, 6f)

3.40 King’s Stand Stakes (Group 1, 5f)
A tremendous renewal of the first Group One 5f sprint of the season was all set to deliver a duel between the brilliant winners of the last two runnings of the Queen Mary Stakes for fillies, Acapulco for Aidan O’Brien and LADY AURELIA for American handler Wesley Ward.Lady Aurelia made a massive splash last year at the Royal Meeting with her Queen Mary win one of the highlights of the entire week. She destroyed a good field that day and American trainer Wesley Ward has been aiming her at a return to Berkshire ever since that devastating performance in 2016.

4.20 St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1, 1m)
Trainer Richard Hannon has been making bullish noises about BARNEY ROY reversing Qipco 2,000 Guineas form with the winner, CHURCHILL, in this £400,000 highlight of the opening day. And given the fact that the colt is sure to be improving after only three career-starts, and failed to handle the undulations at Newmarket, Hannon might be justified. But Aidan O’Brien’s powerful champion, unbeaten in seven starts since his debut, is also still on the upgrade.
Churchill will be a warm order to stamp his authority on the three-year-old mile division following wins in the English and Irish 2000 Guineas. He is unbeaten in his last seven races, which started with a win in the Chesham Stakes at this meeting last year and he has not looked back since, landing four Group 1’s in that sequence. I will take a chance however on BARNEY ROY being able to overturn the one length verdict from the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on just his fourth career start
5.00 Ascot Stakes (Class 2 Handicap, 2m4f)
5.35 Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed, 5f)
A big field of sub-top class but nearly all unexposed juveniles over the minimum trip. . Six of the last eight winners also won last time out, including scorers at 14/1 and 20/1 Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan can seal their reacquaintance this season with a Royal winner courtesy of SIMMY’S COPSHOP. His Nottingham debut success could hardly be working out any better and he reportedly lost a shoe during the race when third a listed contest in Ireland subsequently.
