Saturday’s Horse Racing Betting Tips

By Conor PhillipsRyan Air Chase Cheltenham 2014

Ladies Day at Newbury is the pick of Saturday’s racing, in an event that will not only include superb racing, but a performance from Meat Loaf in the ‘Party In The Paddock’.

Betfred Hungerford Stakes (Group 2)

Soft Falling Rain is unbeaten in 7 contests and poses a huge threat in the Betfred Hungerford Stakes. He is the 15/8 favourite with William Hill to make it 8 straight wins on his much awaited European Debut.

It will not be easy for him though, as Caspar Netscher returned with a superb run in the Lennox Stakes and Gregorian takes a drop in class following his fifth in the Sussex Stakes. Both are a big danger to the favourite, as is 9/2 shot, Tawhid.

The Godolphin charge looked very classy when finishing second to the exceptional Montiridge at Goodwood earlier in the month and another performance like that could see a victory here in this extremely competitive contest.

The Betfred TV Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3)

The Betfred TV Geoffrey Freer Stakes is another extremely tricky race for punters. Aiken is the current market leader with Bet365 offering the best odds of 4/1. He is a serious player here if John Gosden has him ready for this as expected.

Biographer has some potential and causes a threat; however the two Godolphin entries could be the ones to watch out for. Royal Empire is sure to run well if staying the distance, whilst Lost In The Moment has good form claims and should run well again.

Red Cadeaux is the best each way shout following the drop in class. If he can find the form of his second in the Dubai World Cup he is in with a serious chance.

Denford Stud Stakes (Listed)

Just The Judge won the Denford Stud Stakes last year before going on to better things and a couple of these entries will be hoping to do the same. The in-form, Somewhat is an obvious contender on the back of some fine performances and the 6/4 best price that Bet365 are offering indicate that.

Be Ready is unraced, although Godolphin have a good record in this and therefore he cannot be ignored. The market should indicate his chances, although he is already as short as 7/4 and therefore should not be ignored.

Speedy Approach won easily at Doncaster and looks like he will be decent next term too. He has a good chance here, whilst Expert is probably best of the rest.

In the 32Red Supports Racing Welfare Handicap at Newmarket, Ninjago is the 5/1 favourite with Ladbrokes. He ran a good race in the Stewards’ Cup last time and may need a little improvement to win this.

Midnight Flower is suited by the course and distance and should run a big race once more. He is currently 6/1 with most firms and could be the pick of these.

Hasopop is a decent outsider who represents value and may creep into the places at decent odds of 11/1 with William Hill.

The feature race at Ripon is the William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap that is sure to be thrilling. Baccarat is the favoured of the field and ran well over course and distance here in April. He will take some beating, although one of the main danger may be Hoof It, who should run a decent race.

Later in the day, Richard Fahey’s Supplicant runs in the 4.35 and should cruise to victory. He is a huge favourite and as short as 1/20 already.

There is other decent racing action across the UK & Ireland, with Chester and Doncaster throughout the afternoon, before Lingfield, Market Rasen and Tramore get underway in the evening.
