Scottish Grand National Betting Tips

Conor PhillipsScottish Grand National Betting Tips

National season continues on Saturday with the Scottish version set to go ahead at Ayr.  After seeing Goulanes win the Midlands National and the fantastic run of Pineau De Re in the English, this is set to be another thriller.

As is the case with most Nationals the market is wide open, leaving us punters with the tricky task of picking a winner.

Scottish Grand National Betting Tips

Mendip Express, Green Flag, Roalco De Farges and Sam Winner are the four market leaders and can all be backed at around 11/1 with most firms. The first mentioned didn’t go to Cheltenham or Aintree in order to stay fresh for this, whilst the second mentioned ran well to finish fourth in this Grade at Cheltenham.

Philip Hobbs’ main entry won well at Newbury last time, whilst Sam Winner only managed fifth at Cheltenham, nine lengths behind O’Faolains Boy.

The veteran, Tidal Bay unseated in the big race at Aintree last weekend, however is sure to be up for this race now and rather fresh too. Bet Victor offer the best price of 16/1 for him.

Godsmejudge won this 12 months ago, however has not found that form this season and is likely to struggle. Trustan Times is a key player having finished just a head behind Pineau De Re at Cheltenham.

Tim Easterby’s entry is still unexposed over fences, but he is well treated on his current form and is a likely contender at 14/1. Merry King and Adrenalin Flight are two more at longer odds who warrant respect. Mister Marker and Summery Justice could cause upsets and land some place money at odds of 3/1 and 66/1 respectively.

Ayr Betting Tips

It is hard to look past Valdez in the second race of the day at Ayr. Alan King’s seven-year-old finished fifth in the Arkle and that form should have him well on top of these rivals. He had won all of his three previous races over fences and has enough to get back to winning ways here. Bet365 offer the best price of 5/4.

The following race is another special one, as we see Champion Hurdle runner-up MY TENT OR YOURS back in action. He is a short priced favourite for a race he should win. Most leading firms are offering Evens on Henderson’s star.

Court Minstrel won at a big weight at Aintree last week and both Montbazon and Clever Cookie should play a part, however the short price still seems a good one for the top quality favourite.

Both Brother Du Berlais and Saint Charles also look to have big chances in their respective races.

Newbury Betting Tips

Newbury also have a fantastic meeting on Saturday, with three Group 3 events scheduled.

Mutashaded leads the betting at a decent price of 7/2 after finishing last term with a fine ride behind Hillstar in the King Edward Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. He is an exciting prospect and should give another bold showing.

The fillies’ Group 3 also has a great line-up with Rockfel winner Al Thakhira the 5/2 favourite. The main danger to her will be that of Joyeuse, who is a half-sister to Frankel. She will need to settle better to play a part though and the hood will be tried again.

The final Group 3 is the Aon Greenham Stakes and Kingman is the 7/4 best-priced favourite with a number of firms. He is the ante post favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and is sure to run well. Night Of Thunder certainly cannot be ignored though, with Hannon having won this five times in the past 12 years.
