Saturday’s racing supplies us with a nice mix of action, as the coral.co.uk Winter Derby goes ahead at Lingfield on the all-weather, whilst there is also action from Bangor, Gowran Park, Kelso, Newbury and Stratford.
Winter Derby Betting Tips
Jeremy Noseda saddles the favourite in Grandeur, who defied a penalty when winning over course and distance in a trial last time and should relish this trip. He doesn’t have the kindest of draws at 14, however he is by far the most talented horse in the race if at his best.
Farraaj won this race 12 months ago and certainly cannot be ignored this time round, although he will have to improve to get seriously involved this time. He has won two out of two starts over this course and distance and at 5/1 with Bet365, represents decent value.
Windhoek will need to improve to feature prominently, whilst the two outsiders that represent the most value for me are Anaconda and Vodkato. The former finished third behind Grandeur in the trial and can improve, whilst the latter has won multiple races on all-weather and may surprise us.
Spring Cup Betting Tips
The 32Red Spring Cup is the other main race on the Lingfield card and 2000 Guineas entry ERTIJAAL heads the market after a lengthy absence. The three-year-old won a maiden in fine style back in June and is highly-regarded so should win this one.
Coral offer the best price of 7/4 for him, whilst Expert is the second favourite a long way back at 8/1 with William Hill. Richard Hughes will be aboard the Richard Hannon entry, whose yard has won this race three times in the past six years.
American Hope finished second over course and distance last time and may have more to offer. Paddy Power offer 16/1 for him, whilst Sir Robert Cheval who is a course and distance winner is currently 14/1.
Lingfield Horse Racing Betting Tips
The Hever Sprint Stakes is lined up to be a wide open renewal, as last year’s winner Ladies Are Forever heads the betting at 7/2 with most leading firms. She could only manage sixth in the Cleves leading into this, however should run a big race and compete.
Kingsgate Choice won well last time he raced on Poly and usually goes well fresh, so represents fine value at 9/2 and Forest Edge has a very realistic chance if he can rekindle the form when winning here over course and distance in December.
Rowan Ridge represents decent value at 6/1 with Bet365 for the first race at Lingfield, whilst L’Importante is a strong contender for the 4.25. Mondlicht has won two from two at Southwell and there are questions over this different test in the penultimate race.
The one that catches the eye most in the final race of the meet is Swing Alone. The conditions should suit well and at 7/1 with Sky Bet he represents very good value.
BET OF THE DAY: Lingfield 3:15 – ERTIJAAL to win @ 7/4 with Coral
